His career quickly advanced to the Indiana State Police when he graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy and became a trooper in 1983. He was initially assigned to the district post in Jasper, Indiana, where he worked as a uniformed trooper for 5 years. Anticipating that he wanted to go to law school, he transferred to Indianapolis into a special investigations unit, the Major Drug Section, where he worked for 5 years on major drug investigations, including joint task force investigations with federal law enforcement agencies. He was nominated and elected as an officer of the Indiana Drug Enforcement Association, including serving as president. While working investigations, he also attended and graduated from the IU McKinney School of Law, cum laude.
It was then that Mike transitioned to his legal career and began his service in Hamilton County as a deputy prosecuting attorney in 1993. He was first assigned to Hamilton Superior Court 4, prosecuting misdemeanors and low level felonies, and then moved to Superior Court 2, prosecuting major felonies and sex crimes. In 1998 he began his private practice of law with the Hamilton County law firm of Campbell Kyle Proffitt, LLP where he was a partner for 14 years until establishing Casati Law, LLC.
Having lived in Hamilton County since 1997, Mike lives in Carmel with his wife of 25 years, Amy, who is a registered nurse. They have three children, with two in college and one in high school. They are dog lovers, country music fans, and parishioners at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
Mike’s community involvement has also included serving as assistant scoutmaster in Boy Scouts and assistant coach and head coach for many Carmel Dads’ Club sports teams (soccer, basketball and lacrosse).
Mike’s public service as a police officer, deputy prosecuting attorney and plan commissioner extends over 23 years, and he is now in his 26th year of practicing law. He has served as judge pro tem at the request of presiding judges in almost all of the Hamilton County Courts since he has been in private practice.
